How to Contribute
Changes to ESIP governance documents are proposed through GitHub. There are three paths depending on your comfort with GitHub.
Path 1 — Edit in the browser (recommended for board members)
No GitHub account setup or Git knowledge required.
- Find the page you want to edit in the web book.
- Click Edit this page (top-right corner of every page).
- GitHub opens the source file in its web editor.
- Make your changes directly in the browser.
- Scroll down and click Propose changes.
- GitHub creates a pull request automatically — staff will review and merge it.
Path 2 — Report an issue (if you don’t want to make the edit yourself)
Use this when you’ve spotted something that should change — a typo, an outdated policy, a broken link, or an idea for new content — but would rather describe it than edit it.
- Find the page in question in the web book.
- Click Report an issue (top-right corner of every page).
- GitHub opens a pre-filled issue linked to that page’s source file.
- Describe what should change and why.
- Submit the issue. Staff will triage it and either make the edit or open a pull request based on your suggestion.
Path 3 — Pull request (for staff)
Standard GitHub workflow for larger changes:
- Create a branch from
master. - Edit
.qmdfiles locally or in the GitHub interface. - Open a pull request with a description of what changed and why.
- A reviewer merges after approval.
